As a result of long lead times with their suppliers, Redditch based CDM Retail Displays Ltd invested in new machinery which will expand their manufacturing capabilities and capacity, allowing them to bring inhouse some manufacturing activities they have previously had to outsource.
CDM Retail Displays offer a full in-house design and manufacturing facility bringing innovation and style to acrylics, point of sale signage and graphics for the retail sector. Services include fabrication, CNC cutting, diamond polishing, vacuum forming, acrylic and vinyl lettering, assembly, prototyping and logistics.
As a result of the investment, CDM Retail Displays engaged with the Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP) to help them effectively plan the new production activities and to effectively access new markets and sectors that their new manufacturing capabilities have opened up.
The company undertook a consultancy project to assist them with their development of a business growth strategy following the investment in new machinery. The project will allow the company to diversify in the sectors they currently work within and also maximise opportunities to secure new sales through the expansion of their manufacturing capabilities.
The project, which was supported by MGP, also included a review of CDM Retail Displays manufacturing strategy and development of accurate business financial forecasts. Ultimately the project has enabled the company to increase their manufacturing capability and capacity, generating new business sales.
As a result of COVID-19, CDM Retail Displays are developing new products, Sneeze Screens, clear acrylic screens used to protect retail and front of house staff. “We have received such a high demand for our sneeze screens of which we would not have been able to produce without the new machinery or the robust business growth strategy that’s been supported by MGP.” Commented Carl Way, Managing Director of CDM Retail Displays Ltd.
Manufacturing Growth Manager, Catherine Bray of the Manufacturing Growth Programme who supported CDM Retail Displays commented, “SME manufacturers have been finding it very difficult to continue their growth during COVID-19, it’s been great to work with Carl and the team at CDM on their business strategy to support their diversification into new sectors to maximise their growth opportunities.”
The company can produce their ‘Sneeze Screens’ in bespoke or standard sizes and have received a high demand for these products from their existing customers which is predominantly the retail sector.
