Coventry manufacturing firm safeguards 23 jobs in the engineering sector using grant funding from the Manufacturing Growth Programme | Manufacturing Growth Programme

Harry Burrows Fabrications Ltd has been established since 1993 by John Burrows. They are a top-quality steel fabrication and sheet metal work manufacturer, their products range from bespoke items to high volume production, with guaranteed outstanding customer service and on time product delivery.

The manufacturing business works predominantly in the aerospace sector. The business started out in a modest workshop in Coventry before moving three times, each leading them to bigger and better premises due to substantial growth. Their current facility occupies an area of 13,000sq. ft and work is produced using state-of-the-art steel fabrication equipment and machinery.

The manufacturer realised that they required a more efficient approach to the way they finish their products and to have a quality management system that supports them with the welding of the products to meet industry requirements. Which is where the Manufacturing Growth Programme came in.

Manufacturing Growth Manager for Coventry and Warwickshire; Michelle Connor supported the business with free tailored advice and the use of GROWTHmapper® which is a market leading business diagnostic tool. Through the programme, the business received a grant for a capital expenditure project and grant funding towards the cost of a business improvement project to support their attainment of a welding quality standard.

Michelle Connor commented, “With the grant support for the purchase of the new Hexagon Absolute Arm the company has been able to produce ultra-high accuracy parts for their client base that has assisted them to diversify into other sectors.  With the added value of also introducing the Quality Standard EN 15085 for Welding, the company are now offering a more diverse range of products and has the potential to generate more sales for the business”.

The grant meant they were able to purchase a Hexagon Absolute Arm which has assisted them to produce ultra-high-accuracy touch probe measurement of small-to-medium sized parts and support timings when it comes to grinding their products. The support has also meant they have been able to diversify and produce other products and services. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic they were able to manufacture COVID safe door holders and sanitiser holders.

Marc Burrows, Managing Director of Harry Burrows Fabrications Ltd commented; “The Manufacturing Growth Programme has been very helpful and we would highly recommend their services.“

The support provided by Michelle Connor and the Manufacturing Growth Programme has supported the creation of a Quality Manager and safeguarded many jobs.

The business will be continuing with their business growth plans and has placed itself in good stead to branch out to other sectors.
