Coventry International Pressing Company Limited (CIPCO), formed in January 2015, has been key in the delivery of revolutionary HFQ® lightweighting technology, producing cost-effective ultra-high strength solutions for aerospace and automotive structures.
CIPCO was formed as a manufacturing subsidiary of Impression Technologies Ltd, which was founded in 2012 to commercialise many years of advanced aluminium forming research conducted at the University of Birmingham and Imperial College London. Its facility in Coventry has a full-scale hydraulic press line and materials characterisation laboratory and produces prototypes and series production parts for local and global OEMs including Aston Martin and Lotus.
One of the challenges that CIPCO faced was that the growth in business required layout changes to allow more capacity from the site. Working with the Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP), the company identified racking storage as a focus to make better use of space, workflow and safely store the growing number of press tools for client projects.
Michelle Connor, regional Manufacturing Growth Manager from MGP, helped the business secure capital grant funding for new racking at the Coventry site to help with their productivity needs.
The new racking has allowed CIPCO to expand its manufacturing operations, growing volumes and turnover, which will create three new employment opportunities and open-up opportunities for further expansion. Furthermore, the results of the GROWTHmapper Review (MGP’s unique business diagnostic tool) have allowed the business to pinpoint key areas of improvements to aid further growth within the business.
Michelle commented on working with Coventry International Pressing; “This is a great example of how targeted business support can help a manufacturer unlock their potential and access funding to enable them to be more effective”.
“Working with SME manufacturing companies in the Coventry and Warwickshire region, such as CIPCO, it’s great to see how MDs are always looking at ways in which they can improve their productivity and increase profitability along the way.”
Jonathan Watkins, CEO of Impression Technologies Ltd commented: “CIPCO is pleased to have been supported by the Manufacturing Growth Programme, which has provided a timely and effective grant for a rapidly-growing local manufacturing business. I would encourage other SMEs in the sector to profit from this initiative and drive the growth of a key sector in the economy.”
