The Customer

Glencroft is a family business established in 1987. They make a range of country clothing and accessories all from sheep – wool, sheepskin and tweed. Glencroft aims to be as sustainable as possible, working with local mills and tanneries and using materials such as British Wool and Harris Tweed.

The Challenge

The last year has been very difficult as 75% of Glencroft’s business is supplying shops in the UK and overseas which were shut during the pandemic. These are slowly opening up again now, but this source of revenue is still very much reduced this year. Planning for a future retail environment with evolving UK high streets, more online business, international growth and customer demand for increased sustainability and traceability is going to be key to their future success.

Positive changes

Glencroft are focusing more and more on the things that make them different. They are trying to use even more local materials and create completely unique products. They are investing in research and design to produce completely new products that fit with the ethos and brand. This is helping them attract a new international market that really values these qualities.

Future plans

Glencroft are currently working with two companies, one to help design a range of unique knitwear for 2022 made from unique British Wool yarns and other natural fibres (including recycled). And another to help facilitate the sourcing of wool from farmers on their doorstep. This will mean they can be one of the first businesses to produce a range of completely traceable country wear from specific British sheep breeds. We want to encourage a circular economy in our corner of the Dales.
